Fast is Fine, but Accuracy is Everything: Getting Moisture Measurements Right
The quote “fast is fine, but accuracy is everything” regarding gunfights in the Wild West—often attributed to Wyatt Earp—is equally true in litigation involving allegations of moisture damage. Because of their ability to generate quick readings, it may be tempting to use non-penetrating or “pinless” moisture meters to evaluate the moisture level of interior building materials after exposure to wet conditions. These instruments are, however, qualitative, and prone to inaccurate readings—in particular if used without first taking an appropriate baseline measurement of similar dry material. This webinar will provide an overview of moisture measurement methodologies, discuss the differences between pinless and pin-type moisture meters, and present data demonstrating the limitations of pinless meters.
