Heavy Truck Rollovers: Occupant Injury and Kinematics
Presenters: Amber Rath Stern, Ph.D., P.E. and Joshua C. Rogers, P.E.
Summary: This presentation will discuss the analysis of specific heavy truck rollover crashes and the associated occupant kinematics and injury risk associated with the crash. A virtual crash test is conducted by pairing motor vehicle accident reconstruction software with occupant kinematic analysis software. The crash is reconstructed from case specific data which is utilized as input for the occupant analysis based on vehicle specific geometry including both restraint models and an air-ride seat model specific to the subject vehicle. Output from the occupant model includes kinematics and injury risk values similar to those received from crash test dummies, and restraint status can be varied.
